Images should not contain vulgar language or profanity or contain inappropriate words, inappropriate sexual references/imagery or other vulgar statements/imagery in the image or filename. Main namespace images should be used '''only''' via [[Special:Upload]], images uploaded through a users profile cannot comply with the above restriction due to the numerical linux timestamps added by that method of uploading.

The wiki has an inherent tension.  On the one hand, we ideally want the wiki to be "encyclopedia-like" and neutral, with no character names in images.  On the other hand, letting people upload screenshots with names, for "bragging rights", encourages image uploads (and the wiki still needs many images).

Images must be uploaded with a filename that specifically describes what is in the picture. Abbreviations, player names, timestamps, or any other superfluous words that don't have anything to do with the item, key item, or mob, etc will be immediately moved. P99 Everquest Wiki cannot guarantee credit is retained when images are deleted in this manner.

Similarly, as a classic wiki we want classic screenshots ... but Luclin ones are better than nothing. These factors combine into the following image replacement rules:

If you believe an image should be moved to a more descriptive file name, place a {{tl|file-move|reason for moving}}

# '''IMPORTANT:''' The wiki still desperately needs hundreds of completely missing screenshots: before you think about replacing images, please consider instead devoting that time to adding ''new'' images to pages that have none instead.

# '''You can always add an (appropriate) graphic to a page that has none:'''

# '''You can always replace classic "named" image with a new name-less version

#* Again, there's a tension here between respecting people's efforts to upload screenshots, but also wanting a neutral wiki, so this rule attempts to strike a compromise.  Please ''do not'' just go through the wiki cropping out people's names!
 +
#* However, please ''do'' feel free to replace named screenshots with entirely new (name-less) screenshots you've taken.
 +
#'''Do not replace perfectly good screenshots with one containing your character name!'''
 +
#* New named screenshots are no better than existing named screenshots: it is '''''not''''' acceptable to replace a screenshot with someone else's name with a screenshot that has your character's name instead.
 +
#* In fact, doing so hurts the wiki overall, because it discourages others from uploading screenshots for bragging rights if they know their effort will be rewarded by having those rights removed.

*Images should not contain any type of branding, such as a website name or the name of the uploader in the image or the filename.

*'''''Item images should not contain player signatures or be altered (''i.e.'' via photoshop or dat swaps) in any fashion.''''' Certain, albeit few exceptions for alterations, such as Windower, can be utilized in order to get an item to conform to standards.

*Images of items should not have transparent backgrounds showing other players, zones, or any other obstructions. This includes anything outside the border of the item. They should be easy to read with some type of solid background (we prefer #2, 4 and 6). If no other image is available, images with non-preferred backgrounds are acceptable until a more suitable replacement is uploaded.

*NPC images should be taken to the best of your ability with no other obstructions in the image besides the NPC. This includes a prohibition on inclusion of player characters with NPCs.

In general, images of items should not be uploaded to item pages. The primary exception to this are epic weapons or other "special" items with completely unique graphics. Instead, images of items should be uploaded to their corresponding fashion category or categories.
* Images of monsters should be uploaded with a filename containing '''only''' the mob's name and nothing else. (e.g. '''Orc Pawn''' or '''a decaying skeleton''')
+
* Monster images should be taken to the best of your ability with no other obstructions in the image besides the Monster.
+
* The monster's name should be clearly visible in the original game font, altered fonts are not appropriate, but are acceptable until a more suitable replacement is uploaded.
+
*If a Monster is unclaimed, player characters generally do not need to be in the shot.
+
*Images should be taken from the front arc of the monster. It is understandable that there are times in the heat of battle where you may snap a shot and then upload it to the wiki. This is acceptable until a more suitable replacement is uploaded.

==== Fashion Categories ====
Images of other types, such as flags, strategy, etc, are acceptable. Images should not be altered, but may be cropped and/or resized. Altering images in derogatory ways is unacceptable.

== Replacing Images ==
+
All images of items should instead be added to the corresponding item fashion category (or categories).  See [[FashionQuest Guide]] for more information about these categories.
Images should only be replaced if the older version is of low quality or violates one of the above policies. Images should not be replaced due to file size alone. When an image is replaced, it should either use the exact same name of the previous image so that it is actually replaced, or the older image should be marked for deletion with the {{tl|SDelete|replaced with <nowiki>[[Image:Oldimagename.jpg]]</nowiki>}} tag. Failure to follow this procedure will most likely result in deletion of your newly uploaded image. Images that violate one of the above policies may be altered (i.e. cropped or otherwise edited) or replaced in order to conform with the above policies. In this event the older non-conforming image will be subject to a speedy deletion. Do not replace an image in P99 Everquest Wiki that fits perfectly within this policy just to accredit yourself.
+

If you want to replace an image that is incorrectly named, do not tag it for deletion, but simply tag it for rename instead, using {{tl|file-move|reason}}.
+
For instance, if you have a picture of your character wearing an [[Advisor Robe]], you should ''not'' add it to that page.  Instead, you should add it to the two fashion categories for [[Advisor Robe]]: [[:Category:Fashion: Crimson Robe of Alendine]] and [[:Category:Fashion: Dark Maroon]].

== Deleting Images ==
+
The reason for this policy is simple: in EverQuest, many items look the same.  If we add screenshots to ''item'' pages, then we'll have duplicated screenshots on different item pages, and people looking at item A won't see the screenshots for item B (even though they both look the same).
Placing a {{tl|SDelete|Reason}} tag on an image stating your reasoning for deletion and the image that it was replaced with is the proper procedure for having an image deleted from P99 Everquest Wiki.
+

== Remote Images ==
+
The fashion categories instead describe an entire set of items that look the same (or at least similar, possibly with different tints), and so provide a single place to upload all images of how that set of items look.
Linking to images not hosted in P99 Everquest Wiki is not allowed.

Videos should be used to demonstrate in-game strategies, skills or abilities. The videos should not contain any video material that is not from P99 Everquest (added music and/or titles are acceptable but should not contain unsuitable or offensive material and/or lyrics). General Rules

In general the wiki needs images! Image submissions falling into any of the categories where you would already find some images on the p99 wiki are highly encouraged: please add new (appropriate) images to the wiki!

Image Replacement Priority

The wiki has an inherent tension. On the one hand, we ideally want the wiki to be "encyclopedia-like" and neutral, with no character names in images. On the other hand, letting people upload screenshots with names, for "bragging rights", encourages image uploads (and the wiki still needs many images).

Similarly, as a classic wiki we want classic screenshots ... but Luclin ones are better than nothing. These factors combine into the following image replacement rules:

  1. IMPORTANT: The wiki still desperately needs hundreds of completely missing screenshots: before you think about replacing images, please consider instead devoting that time to adding new images to pages that have none instead.
  2. You can always add an (appropriate) graphic to a page that has none:
    • having no image is the worst, so if a page has no relevant image you can always upload one
  3. You can always replace Luclin images with non-Luclin ones:
    • screenshots of Luclin graphics are always inferior to all other screenshots; you can always replace a Luclin screenshot with a non-Luclin one
  4. You can always replace classic "named" image with a new name-less version
    • Again, there's a tension here between respecting people's efforts to upload screenshots, but also wanting a neutral wiki, so this rule attempts to strike a compromise. Please do not just go through the wiki cropping out people's names!
    • However, please do feel free to replace named screenshots with entirely new (name-less) screenshots you've taken.
  5. Do not replace perfectly good screenshots with one containing your character name!
    • New named screenshots are no better than existing named screenshots: it is not acceptable to replace a screenshot with someone else's name with a screenshot that has your character's name instead.
    • In fact, doing so hurts the wiki overall, because it discourages others from uploading screenshots for bragging rights if they know their effort will be rewarded by having those rights removed.
Violating these rules may result in wiki account suspension, and continued violation will result in a ban.

Items

In general, images of items should not be uploaded to item pages. The primary exception to this are epic weapons or other "special" items with completely unique graphics. Instead, images of items should be uploaded to their corresponding fashion category or categories.

Fashion Categories

All images of items should instead be added to the corresponding item fashion category (or categories). See FashionQuest Guide for more information about these categories.

For instance, if you have a picture of your character wearing an Advisor Robe, you should not add it to that page. Instead, you should add it to the two fashion categories for Advisor Robe: Category:Fashion: Crimson Robe of Alendine and Category:Fashion: Dark Maroon.

The reason for this policy is simple: in EverQuest, many items look the same. If we add screenshots to item pages, then we'll have duplicated screenshots on different item pages, and people looking at item A won't see the screenshots for item B (even though they both look the same).

The fashion categories instead describe an entire set of items that look the same (or at least similar, possibly with different tints), and so provide a single place to upload all images of how that set of items look.

NPCs

  • Images of NPCs should be named for example as "npc_a_giant_rat.png" (lower case capitalization). Typically, keep apostrophe (') and ticks (`) in the filename.

Players

Except in fashion images (and very rarely on item page images, such as server-first epic screenshots) screenshots of players do not belong on the wiki. Again, the goal of the wiki is to be a neutral "encyclopedia of classic EverQuest", and showing individual player images doesn't fit that goal.

Other Images

Images of other types, such as maps, strategy, etc, are acceptable (and encouraged!).

User-Created

Fanart, user created drawings, etc must be given credit to their original authors with reference links whenever possible.
