Easiest way to complete the quest is to sit on the path just west of the Gnomes near Greater Faydark Zone Line. Track for all undead monsters and kill skeleton/mummy placeholders.(Can this be verified? It seems to conflict with loc information.)
At 8:00pm game time, all skeletons/mummies in the area immediately despawn/respawn with a chance of being A rancorous ghast. At 6:00am game time the undead once again despawn/respawn as only skeletons and mummies.
The heart is a semi-rare drop, so expect several day/night cycles to collect all 4.
