There's a popular myth that Hadden will not drop the earring if he is holding a fishing pole, but this is false; Hadden can drop both the earring and fishing pole at the same time. It's not a myth. After camping hadden numerous times over the years on p99 I've never seen him have both a fishing pole and an earring; he has always had one or the other.
