Current Project
- Updating and improving Quest pages on this wiki.
- Focusing on Quest pages that are missing info, have bad formatting or are completely wrong.
- There are some pages that still only appear as copy+paste from Illia, and are not confirmed 100% correct.
- Special focus on Faction and quests relating to Faction Boosts. I discovered and fixed some innacurate links and faction specifics on numerous pages.
- Try to confirm amount of Faction hit wherever it is more than +/- 1 (Example found Messenger quest that gives +50 Bloodsabers )
- Discover and document unknown Faction quests, hits, methods.
Ongoing/Future Project
Faction Guide
- Create a Faction Guide with a goal of Raising ALL RACES Town Factions with a focus on the fastest/easiest/repeatable quests. As well as pitfalls and rookie mistakes.
- Do's and Don'ts (Things I know now and wish I knew then.)
- Break up Factions into categories or definitions of 'At Risk' , 'Stable' 'Impervious' etc.
- One Way Ticket = Factions that have 0 known source for raising it on P99. Once they are lowered, they can never be raised again.
Examples include - Othmir, Geonids, Sporali, Brownie, Tunare, etc. Like Plane of Growth is to Tunarian followers. You have been warned! - At Risk(or Extremely Time Consuming) = There are very few quests or methods to raise them.if you became KOS it could be very difficult to raise it again. (Needing illusion, or invis to turn ins )
Examples - No creatures types gives this (orcs, goblins gnolls) , only other Guard/NPCs which have opposing factions OR over-all time consuming (like Lore Item No Drop messenger quest across continents) - Stable = Many quests to Raise it and many creatures or NPCs to raise it. Also Many that lower it. Overall not a big concern if it gets lowered. eventually could raise it.
(Examples various Freeport factions ) - Impervious = A Faction you could never permanently ruin. Example Qeynos - Killing a Gnoll gives all + to town factions ( AND Merchants!) and only -negative to gnoll. You could become completely bottomed out in KOS, and unable to talk to or vendor anywhere. But simply spending enough time killing gnolls and clearing Blackburrow you could eventually raise them all again.
- One Way Ticket = Factions that have 0 known source for raising it on P99. Once they are lowered, they can never be raised again.
- Another Example is Kaladim. Killing dwarves would ruin all of the Town Faction, and killing Orcs/Goblins only Repairs some of them but not all the guilds and merchants. However, the fabled Canloe Nusback is on one the main factions raised by killing orcs. Thus, you can turn into him Belts + Pads and receive the other factions in the town enabling the rest of the guilds, merchants and quests therein and eventually allowing to max all of them. Not the same simple scenario as Qeynos + Gnolls but with the two step process and killing orcs with only (minor?) penalty, and enough belts and pads you can never permanently ruin this. The same is true to a lesser extent in some other towns too, like Rivervale.
- There are scenarios where it may make more sense to do fast faction turn ins, even if they lower another. (Example Rat Ears)
- For this reason, special consideration should be taken if one wants to work on ALL or many factions across races (as this guide is intended for).
Example - its popular to work on Heretics faction for gaining access to Paineel, and the Hole. But if you intend to work on raising Erudin factions, many of those quests will be lowering Heretics. So strongly recommend working on all Erudin factions first and raising them as high as you want to take them. THEN move onto Heretics and farm some 9000 Kobolds.- In general, if you are trying to improve both 2 opposing factions--determine which one has better Ratio vs Time. Example Erudin again, I started with trying to do both Heretics and Erudin, with limited turn in quests for their Mage, Enc and Wiz guilds. it was taking quite a while (creatures kobolds do not give these types) and eventually realized it would be much faster to just kill NPCs in Paineel which is a + to all of these opposing factions I was wanting to raise. However, Paineel is kind of a special circumstance because there is only ONE Evil opposing faction which is safely fixable.
- I think there are other cases where its faster to kill and bottom out one faction to raise/cap another. Then switch to some rapid Muffin/Bonechip turn in style quests. The point being, which order you work on each faction is important. Dont buy 50 belts and turn them in, and then go do another quest which lowers these again. Look carefully at each hit for better or worse. This is worth looking more at another Guide on this wiki 'Guide to Friendship through Murder'
- For this reason, special consideration should be taken if one wants to work on ALL or many factions across races (as this guide is intended for).
- Alternatively, some quests may appear convenient and useful (Deathfist Belt) but may in fact be lowering another faction that would become even harder or take longer to repair ( like Freeport Militia). Especially since we can not see the Faction # Value being adjusted, its possible your negative is actually -10 and your positive is only +2. (Another reason I want to determine these values and add them to the pages) In this case you may be better off doing a longer quest or different method that does not lower another faction. Even if it seems like it takes much longer to raise it, you are saving yourself from having to fix the Opposing faction later.
Etiquette - If you are a high lvl and farming low lvl mobs for faction, please be courteous of other players trying to exp. All of my strategies for faction killing assumes the area is already unoccupied. If someone arrives and is clearly trying to just get exp, please relinquish the camp/spawn or to them or come to an agreement if they are only after a certain drop. You could even mention your faction and ask to just tag each mob they are killing.
