Introduction

The simple purpose of this guide is to specifically document the best "dad camps" for going from 12-60 on P99 for a new enchanter. It assumes no prior knowledge of Everquest nor access to platinum or gear. It is possible to get to 60 entirely solo, self-found and hardcore using these camps though I would hardly recommend it. This a solid route that does not attempt to be comprehensive and it is laughably sub-optimal to say the least.

Charm vs Animation

Attempting to charm at low levels on an ungeared enchanter is largely a waste of time. You are much more likely to simply give up on enchanter if you try something like the Nybright Sisters Camp at a low level. It's certainly fun to go and try and will help you learn the basics of charm killing but the frequent charm breaks, pathing dangers like the Murder Horse and your relatively low mana pool can make it more a lesson in frustration and running to the ZL than anything else.

Goblin Gazughi Ring

A random youtube short about how to farm GGR is what piqued my interest in EQ and led me to P99 and enchanter in the first place so it holds a special place in my heart.

The Goblin Gazughi Ring is the single most important upgrade you can get and probably tied with a GCD clicky for raw utility. Many veteran players will downplay its importance and I can only assume it's because their leveling experience is so far behind them they can't remember how miserable life was without it. Being able to instantly break charm at very low mob % rather than having to time something like invisibility (which also forces you to be standing and not regenerating mana) is priceless. It also makes you feel so much more like an enchanter!

The Sarnak Courier Guide is quite comprehensive. Realistically, trying to farm it before at least level 30 is a miserable experience as the adds are a constantly issue. I found I was able to lock down one of the single spawns and even the double sometimes at level 34. I highly recommend the SE spawns at -1300, -2980 and -1762, -2518 as they seem to have marginally less adds. At level 34 I killed 101 sarnak couriers before I got my GGR.

The hardest part isn't the endless grind, it's keeping track of the short 30 second respawn so you don't miss the mob. A simple log reader with a 30 second timer on killing mobs and some sort of audible notification helps. It means you can be focusing on something else and then flick back when the beep happens. Having a key bound to both 'targest nearest NPC' and your pulling spell also saves some hassle.

Dad Camps

Dad camps are areas of mob spawns that are safe to go AFK in at a moment's notice. Named for the need for Dads to go suddenly AFK, they also serve those of us who play at work or on call. I did the majority of 1-60 both solo and whilst on-call so they became my bread and butter. The best dad camps are a combination of 100% AFK-safe, low respawn time, easily manageable with preferably short combat times and, preferentially drop some loot/plat.

Level Range Zone Location / Camp Mobs Notes
12–20 Kurn's Tower Entranceway / Hidden Room Scalebone Skeleton, Greater Skeleton, Lesser Icebone Skeleton Safe to sit at ZL and pull singles with animation. Largely safe if people train to the exit properly.
20–24 Lake Rathetear Outside Arena Aviak Guard Single pair of Aviak guards, great for charm killing. Low respawn. Can dip to arena ZL easily.
24–33 Rathe Mountains Gypsy Camp A Giant Skeleton Single spawn across from camp on 6:40 timer. Easy animation kill. 100% AFK safe at back of camp.
24–33 Southern Plains of Karana Aviak Town "KFC" Aviak avocet, Aviak harrier, A Tesch Mas Gnoll Alternative to Rathe Mountains. Safer on KFC ramp, but AFK only at the very top.
34–41 Rathe Mountains Gypsy Camp Cynthia Engage before she buffs, attack to engage pet. Fear + nuke.
42–49 The Feerrott Caves near Plane of Fear entrance A Spectre Root/fear + nuke with pet or charm kill. Spectre #1 highest level, stays blue longer. Safe wall near #1 but invis recommended due to trains. Bind at merchant wall to AFK/sell safely.
49–55 Surefall Glade Lake area Niera Farbreeze, Merdan Fleetfoot Two non-social, non-aggro, no-faction mobs. 100% safe. Start with fear+nuke, more efficient to charm Merdan onto Niera. Beware of Niera nukes.
49–55 Western Plains of Karana Guard Tower #1 Konia Swiftfoot Single non-social, non-aggro, no-faction mob. 100% safe. Simple fear + nuke with pet. Good alternative when Niera/Merdan unavailable.
55–57 Neriak Third Gate Library (#3 on map) Nallar Q`Tentu Single non-social, non-aggro, no-faction mob. 100% safe. Nuke with pet. Watch for nasty spells.
55–58 Butcherblock Mountains Crossroads Nyzil Bloodforge Multiple faction hits. Has 2 guard adds — pacify + pull with dispel. Use crevasse lip trick to trap during fear. Risky, only use as desperation camp; not recommended for enchanters as a “dad camp.”
55–60 Wakening Lands Geonid Caves A Geonid, A Geonid Shaman Profitable camp but unsafe. Sit at safety rock near north entrance. Use pacify split + fetter+tash+charm combo to make turret pet. Root both pet and target for safer re-charm cycles.
55–60 Frontier Mountains Mountain Giant Fortress Mentrax Mountainbone, Eldak Howlingbear Two non-aggro, non-social, no-faction mobs. Ultimate dad camp for XP, no loot. Charm one, pull the other, fetter second. Very safe if careful. Avoid mez on charm/root breaks.
