Enrage means the creature does 100% riposte to the front 180 degrees. Riposte does not apply to the back 180 degrees of a creature. Most creatures that enrage do so at around 10% health, and enrage will only last a short time.

Enrage riposte applies only to melee attacks, not to ranged or spell damage. It applies fully to special melee attacks like slam, kick, etc. Learn to anticipate it, and you (and your pet) will do much better.
