Walkthrough

Mining caps (aka useless caps) are sometimes dropped by kobold scouts (though not often). Take these caps to the two skeleton miners at the entrance to Paineel, or to the Abandoned Heretic's Pet. All three will give experience; the two skeletons mining in the tunnel will break off a part of themselves as a reward and give you a bone chips or some zombie skin (or occasionally a fractured femur or bone shield [AC8]) and the Abandoned Heretic's Pet will reward you with a gem he has recently mined.

The Abandoned Heretic's Pet wanders a path from the Bridge to the Porch at Paineel and then checks in and chastises his slaves for not working hard enough and then repeats his trip, but the two in the tunnel stay put and can always be found in the same place.
