General Rules

In general the wiki needs images! Image submissions falling into any of the categories where you would already find some images on the p99 wiki are highly encouraged: please add new (appropriate) images to the wiki!

Image Priority

On the one hand, if the wiki doesn't have an image, we want to get that image into it, and we want to "grease the wheels" to make that happen as much as possible. This means encouraging people to upload images by letting them keep their character name in the screenshot (so that they can earn "bragging rights").

On the other hand, the wiki is meant to be "encyclopedia-like", so ideally we want it to look as neutral as possible, and it should be acceptable (and encouraged) to replace existing images with names with new ones (not just cropped versions) that don't have those names. Together these two factors combine into the following rules:

  • No graphics are the worst: if a page has no image you can always upload a (relevant) image
  • Screenshots of pre-Luclin graphics are always inferior to all other screenshots; you can always replace a Luclin screenshot with a non-Luclin one
  • "Un-credited" (no name in screenshot) images are always preferable to credited ones (unless the credited one is incredibly low resolution or otherwise low quality); it is acceptable to replace an image with a name with one without
    • Again, there's a tension here between respecting people's efforts, but also wanting a neutral wiki. Please do not just go through the wiki cropping out people's names! However, please do feel free to replace named screenshots with entirely new (name-less) screenshots you've taken.
    • New "credited" screenshots are no better than existing "credited" screenshots: it is not acceptable to replace a screenshot with someone else's name with a screenshot that has your character's name instead.

Items

In general, images of items should not be uploaded to item pages. The primary exception to this are epic weapons or other "special" items with completely unique graphics.

Fashion Categories

All images of items should instead be added to the corresponding item fashion category (or categories). For instance, if you have a picture of your character wearing an Advisor_Robe, you should not add it to that page. Instead, you should add it to the two fashion categories for Advisor_Robe: CategoryFashion: Crimson Robe of Alendine and Fashion: Dark Maroon.

The reason for this policy is simple: in EverQuest, many items look the same. If we add screenshots to item pages, then we'll have duplicated screenshots on different item pages, and people looking at item A won't see the screenshots for item B (even though they both look the same).

The fashion categories instead describe an entire set of items that look the same (or at least similar, possibly with different tints), and so provide a single place to upload all images of how that set of items look.

NPCs

  • Images of NPCs should be named for example as "npc_a_giant_rat.png" (lower case capitalization). Typically, keep apostrophe (') and ticks (`) in the filename.
  • Classic (pre-Luclin) models are strongly preferred. In the future it would be nice to replace all non-classic model screenshots with screenshots from p1999.

Players

Currently, the only place where you will find p99 player pictures is one per class epic quest, denoting the first player to receive that epic.

Other Images

Images of other types, such as maps, strategy, etc, are acceptable (and encouraged!).

User-Created

Fanart, user created drawings, etc should be given credit to their original authors with reference links whenever possible.

Replacing Images

Images should only be replaced if the older version is of low quality or violates one of the above policies. Images may be altered (i.e. cropped or otherwise edited) or replaced if it results in an improvement.
