I've seen him spawn as quickly as an hour after death, I've had reports from guild members of him spawning even more quickly; it definitely is not 8 +/- 2 hours.
Be warned, he will agro you if you're killing Mammoths where he paths.
When he has he sword, he does not wield it (or at least may not be wielding it); it might still drop.
