Dangers

This dungeon is littered with traps of many various types. They include root traps, dispel traps, fear traps, DD traps, swarming beetle traps, and dragon construct traps (where a Dragon Construct is spawned). Corpse recovery is especially difficult in this zone, even for the best rogues. The safest method to get a corpse out of the tunnels is to summon it, as the numerous traps below will break a rogue out of hide/sneak and get them killed. Shadow Knights or Monks with invis items (Ring of Shadows, Larrikan's Mask, Cloudy Potion, etc.) can waltz through the rat tunnels and drag corpses in relative safety, as none of the rats save named will see invis, and feign off aggro if a trap hits. If no summons are available, and tunnel running proves too risky, a Shadow Knight, Necro, or Bard with their Locate Corpse abilities, or someone with a bundle of Chipped Bone Rods, can hone in on corpses from the top floor and z-axis drag them through the ground.

There is also some complex faction while hunting here between the two different types of rats. One type of rats is nice to outsiders and the other does not like them, and killing rats on one faction will raise faction with the other.

Benefits

Hunting rats is very good experience, and they also rarely drop very nice items. High-level spells are often dropped here along with gems of all types (including flawless diamonds, black marble, and pristine emeralds) for velious quest armor.

The Dragon Necropolis can be reached by passing through the Western Wastes at loc -2800, +380.
