NOTE: This page is a work in progress; currently no "official" Velious-era Solo Artist Challenge exists.

The solo artist challenge is a self-enforced "competition" by players at the highest level to determine which of the most challenging mobs on the server can be soloed (and/or duoed or trioed). To see a list (or add yourself to the list) of previous challenge winners, see the Solo Artist Challenge Hall of Fame.

The original Solo Artist Challenge was started in this forum thread by Loraen (and there is a wiki version too: Solo Artist Challenge (Kunark Era)), but a new version which incorporates Velious is now being worked on. A copy of the Kunark-era challenge is included below to serve as a starting point for the Velious-era challenge. Please feel free to edit it, so long as you are being respectful of the conversation here

Rules

Note: these rules were originally inspired by Ploktor's thread, then created by Loraen to revive a version from the Vesica Dei message boards (originally called the 'The Real Enchanter Epic'). They have been further updated as time has progressed.

Below is a list of the 50+ named mobs in the game which could potentially be soloable or duoable, ranked in order of difficulty and sorted into six tiers. The ranking includes both the difficulty of the named mob itself and an adjustment for the number of guards, which is why Howling Stones is so much harder than Sebilis.

The categories, in descending order of awesomeness:

[S+] -> Soloed with no consumable items and self buffs only

[S] -> Soloed with no consumable items but using outside buffs OR no outside buffs with minor/moderate use of consumable items

[S-] -> Soloed with moderate use of consumable items and outside buffs

[S*] -> Soloed with use of strong item clickies

[S with pull help] -> Soloed with pull help (or pre-nerf invis pulled); can use same 4 tiers as above for each type of pull-assisted kill

[D+] -> Duoed with no consumable items or outside buffs

[D] -> Duoed with no consumable items but using outside buffs OR no outside buffs with minor/moderate use of consumable items

[D-] -> Duoed with moderate use of consumable items and outside buffs

[D*] -> Duoed with use of strong item clickies

, etc., while lesser consumable items are considered to be shaman potions and things of that nature. Excessive use of those consumables would equate to being the same as using a strong item clicky (ie, healing potions can be equivalent to using a complete heal item, consumable items that produce DPS are overpowered when stacked or combined with usage of healing potion). Use of consumables should be limited to be eligible for those tiers. Invis pulling used to be broken on p99 and is considered equivalent to "pull help". Some pull help may be used for the normal ranks of certain Plane of Sky mobs and encounters of that nature, mainly because those might be impossible otherwise. Use common sense regarding the amount of help you can get from other players and still consider it a solo kill. In general the idea is that you could zone in and kill the mob on your own.

Ranks

To complete a rank, you must kill 50% of the named on that rank, and that 50% must include names from all major areas (i.e. soloing the Sebilis Crypt itself does not make you a Solo Master, you have to do HS South too). Completion of prior ranks is not required. Solo kills will result in the title of of 'Solo Disciple/Master/Grandmaster'; likewise with duos. Killing everything on the list from Grandmaster on down will result in the title of 'Legend'. Achieving a solo rank implies the previous duo rank, since they are the same mobs (a Solo Master is automatically a Duo Disciple, since they could achieve the same results while powerleveling some noob).

Artists will be sorted by maximum solo/duo score, secondary solo/duo score, and time of achievement. If you feel like you have met the requirements for a rank or you have killed a god-tier mob, post it on the forums to be added to the wiki page (formerly Loraen/Sakuragi/Dramor was tracking it). Screenshots and videos are highly encouraged but not required; it's still cool to read verified field reports of epic fights.
