Mend is a monk specific ability that heals the user for 25% of their total health and is on a 6 minute timer. Until 100 skill, failures may cause damage instead of healing; at 100 and above, the skill may still fail, however it will not cause damage (it rarely, if ever, fails past 100 or so skill, though).
Note: It's possible that character level has an effect on whether Mend will cause damage. I have a 22 Monk that appears to never harm himself, despite having a 74 in the skill.
