Fishing allows people to pull fresh fish (among other things) from bodies of water. It requires a fishing rod (e.g. Fishing Pole) and bait (e.g. Fishing Bait or Fishing Grubs).
To fish, equip a rod in your main hand with bait in your inventory and stand near a body of water, then cast your line by using the Fishing skill. The smallest fishable body of water in the game is the small puddle in the tunnels leading from the West Freeport newbie area to North Freeport. Any body of water larger than that can also be fished in, including bodies of water inside dungeons.
- All fishing rods have a chance to break (and be destroyed) on use.
- Bait may be lost even if you didn't catch anything.
- You can fish while sitting (meditating).
- If you receive the message about fishing for land sharks, make sure you're close enough to the water.
- "Skill Mod: Fishing" modifier rods, baits, and lures are not classic and are nonfunctional on Project 1999. [1]

Recipes
For most fish-related recipes, see Baking.
To make Fish Eggs, combine either a Thunder Salmon or Greengill Salmon and a Skinning Knife in a Tackle Box. It will produce 2 Fish Eggs and 2 Fish Scales.
Combine a Gunthak Mackerel and a Skinning Knife in a Tackle Box to make 5 Fishing Baits.
You can make many varieties of lures but they have no special effect. The hooks for these can only be purchased in Ocean of Tears on Zachariah Reigh island. These are all made in a Tackle Box (purchasable from the same place as the hooks). Silk thread is made in a Sewing Kit (see Tailoring). Use the lures in place of bait.

Zone-Specific Fishing
When fishing in various zones, you will find a wide variety of items being reeled in on your line. (Several zones still have fresh fish as their main fishing items, so bakers need not despair that they'll run out of normal fish for baking anytime soon.)
Also note that there are several fish that you have to kill to get. They are not fished - you have to jump in the water and give them a chance to bite you back if you want them. These include: Rivervale Trout (Rivervale), Pirahnas (N. Freeport Hall of Truth?), Cabilis Barracuda (Cabilis), and the infamous koalindl (N. Qeynos). Unsurprisingly, since the koalindl is a sacred fish, certain residents of Qeynos take offense if you kill it, so beware of faction hits, and guards that will try to kill you if you attack one of these little fish.
