Many raid mobs have fear effects, especially dragons with their Dragon Roar. A single area of effect fear can make every raid member flee in terror, disrupting (or even ending) the raid. This page details tactics that can be used in such raids.

Magic Resistance

The most important thing a player can do to protect against fear is buff their Magic Resistance stat. Obviously better gear can raise MR, but buffs can also add a lot. In fact, a level 60 Bard (using a discipline) and an Enchanter can raise a character with as little as 4 MR to the maximum of 255 (see Buff Lines#Magic Resistance).

Psalm of Mystic Shielding (Bard Song)

The level 41 Bard song Psalm of Mystic Shielding raises MR by up to +70 (at level 60), for as long as it's maintained. However, if a 60 Bard also uses their Puretone Discipline, then for the next two minutes the buff instead gives an incredible +196 MR.

(Group) Resist Magic and Blue Thrones

Enchanters can cast Group Resist Magic to add 54-55 MR for 36 minutes.

If an Enchanter is not available any raid-level Cleric/Druid/Shaman (or 55+ Paladin) can cast Resist Magic for +40 MR.

Finally, if a character collects a Blue Flower of Functionality (from the Plane of Mischief they can buff themselves with the Aura of Blue Petals for +50 MR. Group Resist Magic will still be preferable to most characters, as it offers five more MR (and the two don't stack).

Intelligence-based Casters

The four Intelligence-based casters all have a self-only buff Shield of the Magi which adds +24 MR.

Magicians

While it doesn't actually help the Magician, a Mage of level 59+ can make their pet completely immune to fear with the Valiant Companion buff. This makes mage pets more reliable DPS than even a character with 255 MR, in a fight with fear.

Null Potions

Characters can also raise the MR temporarily through buffs from the Greater Null Potion (+25 MR), Null Potion (+15 MR) or Minor Null Potion) (+5 MR).

Self-Root

If a character is rooted, than even if they do become feared, they won't go anywhere. This means DPS can immediately resume damage as soon as the fear wears off, and tanks can continue tanking even while feared (until they lose agro).

This makes self-root effects very valuable against fear-using mobs.

Bark Potions

The Bark Potion gives a buff (Stalwart Regeneration) which provides +2 HP regeneration/tick for one minute ... and also roots the user in place during that time. This makes it a very popular source of self-root for raiders.

Root

Paladins can cast the spell Root on themselves 48 seconds, or Enstill for 1.6 minutes. Many other casters can also, but since they don't usually want to stand next to the raid mob it's a less useful technique for them.
