Alchemy is a Shaman only tradeskill that can make potions of various effect, enabling many other classes to cast spells not normally available to them. Alchemy isn't exactly very cheap. Beginning the trade alchemy can cost lots of time, and platinum. Choosing to pursue alchemy to its maximum extent can ultimately cost you lots of time and money, but it does have its rewards in the end. ref1 ref2

How do I make a potion?

Go to your hometown or any other town with an alchemist and see your alchemy dealer, and buy a Medicine Bag. Next, you need to buy the correct ingredients for the potion you want to make. Lets say for instance you want to make a "Potion of Lesser Stability." This potion requires the two ingredients of Lucerne, and Sage Leaf. It also requires a skill of '25' to be trivial. Provided that you trained 20 points into alchemy, your skill should be 20. Therefore, your chance of successfully making this potion are rather good. The more you make a potion the more your skill increases. However once you reach the trivial level, you stop gaining point increases in your skill. This means its time to create more difficult potions to raise your skill.

1. Place your ingredients into your "medicine bag."
2. Click the "Combine" button on your "medicine bag."
3. Dependent on your skill, you will either make or fail the potion.

Raising Alchemy Skill

The first thing you need to make a potion, is that you must be at least level 25. Once you hit level 25, go train the first 20 points into alchemy at your guildmaster. Currently on p1999 the maximum alchemy skill that can be reached is 170. Alchemy, unlike several other tradeskills, is also capped based on player level, according to the chart below. Thus, it doesn't make sense to start training alchemy until level 29.

Where do I buy ingredients?

You can buy your alchemy herbs and ingredients at several different locations. Some locations sell different ingredients than other locations. It may require some traveling to get the exact ingredient you want. When buying ingredients, make sure you keep your charisma in mind. The higher your charisma is the better prices you will get on your alchemy ingredients. The maximum charisma you can have to get better prices is 110 charisma. Shaman also have several charisma boosting spell buffs that can help as well.

Faction is also relatively important. Try to keep a positive standing with most merchants so you get the best possible prices with the dealers.
